We travelled to Shetland on the ferry from Aberdeen. As the
photo shows, that is a remarkably grey city; this could be a B&W photo but
for the red bits on the boats.
It is so strange, after a 14.5 hour ferry crossing, to still
be in the UK, driving on the left and everything apparently familiar. We bought
tomatoes in the Co-op in Lerwick that had been grown in Suffolk. (In Suffolk
they come from somewhere else.)
We visited the Jarlshof site: a very interesting excavation
of many settlements from Neolithic times to the 16th century, all at
one small and beautiful location. Lots to think about, how that happened. One of the museum displays refers to Shetland
as “where the North Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean”. Here are some photos from
our 4 stunning Atlantic costal walks so far:

Stunning photos. Funny about the tomatoes!! Aberdeen indeed looks v. grey. I had a job there in a Psych, hospital for the summer of 1950, but switched to Leicester at Ian's suggestion. XO Ma
